New traffic rules will be introduced in Switzerland from 1 January 2021. For cyclists, turning right at red is especially new. But beware: this does not apply automatically in all cases, so please observe the exact regulation.
In the summer, the federal government adopted new traffic rules, which will now be introduced by 2021. Some important changes are also planned for cyclists: right turn at red, setting up area for light signals and bicycle roads in 30 zones.
What is most talked about is probably the new right for bicycles to be allowed to turn right even at red lights. But there are a few things to keep in mind:
- This right-to-right is only valid if it is marked with a special additional board
- It is also necessary to take into account other traffic participants (e.g. for pedestrian crossings, etc.)
- This regulation is equivalent to “no advance” for bicycles, i.e. “shark teeth” and applies only to right-turning and not to straight-line driving
