Wide selection of running shoes
Here's how to find the right running shoe
The selection of running shoes is almost endless. There are specific models for every foot and leg type. On top of that, there are models designed for competitions, training, trail running, or triathlons. In short: the variety of models is so vast that picking the wrong pair off the shelf without proper guidance or prior knowledge is almost inevitable. This can have unpleasant consequences that often go far beyond bruised toenails. That’s why getting serious advice from experienced specialists isn’t a luxury—it’s a must for all runners.
Here’s what our four-step running shoe consultation process looks like:
Step 1: Needs Assessment and Intended Use
First, we’ll discuss your needs and what you’ll be using the shoes for. What distances do you want to run? What is your fitness level? Are you looking for a competition shoe or a training shoe? What type of surface do you prefer? If you bring your old running shoes with you, we’ll examine the wear pattern, which will give us some initial important clues.

Step 2: Analysis on the pressure gauge
Now walk across our highly sensitive pressure plate in your socks. The AI-powered software helps us recommend the most suitable shoes for you based on your gait. In this selection process, we don’t just rely on modern technology; we also fully incorporate our expertise and years of experience.

Step 3: Test run and evaluation
Next, you’ll try on the recommended shoes and run in them on our indoor track. We’ll observe you while paying attention to your foot placement, leg alignment, and hip movement. Equally important, however, is how the shoes feel to you. This helps us narrow down the options.

Step 4: Check on the pressure gauge
Now try on your favorite pair(s) and walk across the pressure plate again. This will show us how well the shoe fits you, allowing us to make the final selection.

Tips for buying running shoes:
Bring your old running shoes
Your old running shoes are usually a great help when getting advice: depending on where the sole is worn down, you can determine your running style with a high degree of certainty.
It's better to buy shoes in the afternoon
Feet tend to swell during the day and while running (by up to one size). It is therefore advisable to try on shoes in the afternoon. For those shopping in the morning: It’s better to buy a size that’s slightly “too big.”
Specialized triathlon running shoes
There are special running shoes designed for triathlons. These differ from conventional running shoes primarily in the following ways:
- Lining material that allows you to run without socks
- Quick-lace system that allows you to put on and take off the shoes without laces while still ensuring a snug fit
- Entry aids on the shoe for a quick change
- Ventilation holes in the sole
At the very least, a quick-lace system can be added to any running shoe at little cost and with minimal effort (e.g., using “Lock Laces”). Our tip: It’s much more important to find the right shoe and retrofit it with a quick-lace system than to buy a specialized triathlon shoe that might lead to injuries because it doesn’t match your running style or leg/foot position.
